In the south of Mauritius everything is better than
your wildest imagination could have ever thought of, the wild landscapes with
mountains, the gorges, the valleys, the old extinct volcanos, the waterfalls
deep inside the sugar cane fields, the pure natural therapeutical water to bathe
in are just a few to name.
Climate should be your first consideration if you want to experience Mauritius
at its best. The only time to seriously consider trekking through Mauritius's
spectacular mountain country is during the dry season from September to December.
The downside of climate-related trip planning is that everyone else has the same
idea. You're strongly advised to book well in advance, especially during the
peak tourist times. April, May and the school holidays from early July to late
August are the busiest times, and in December you risk being left high and dry
without accommodation unless you book well in advance. July/August is also high
trekking season. The quietest times in Mauritius are during cyclone-prone
February and March. The seasons normally change in April and that isn't too bad
a time for a visit; but, for maximum spatial and climatic enjoyment, June,
October and November are probably the best months of all. The forbidding
mountains and gorges offer a ton of trekking possibilites. If you love Nepal or
New Zealand, you'll also love the south of Mauritius, which has similar high
quality hiking and trekking - but with the tropical twist. The seashore potected
by a long reef barrier, on the east and west coast of Mauritius, gives you
hundreds of kilometeres of coast, for your pleasure, scuba diving, snorkelling,
windsurfing, surfing, water skiing and whatever else you may want to do in
tropical waters!
Mauritius Island is the kind of dream place, that when you leave, you can't stop
yourself from contributing to the trillion billion tear drops that have created
the beautiful emotional scenery for which, Mauritius and its people (the heart
of Mauritius) are renowned.
